How to Export Data from Geneious Prime and Upload it to LabArchives

Learn how to export data from Geneious Prime and upload it to LabArchives ELN for secure storage, easy access, and seamless collaboration.

Managing and sharing biological data is a crucial aspect of many research programs. Tools like Geneious Prime and LabArchives Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) simplify this process. Geneious Prime allows users to export a variety of biological data, including DNA sequences, alignments, and annotations, while LabArchives provides a secure, cloud-based platform for storing and sharing that data. In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps to export your data from Geneious Prime and upload it to LabArchives for long-term access and seamless collaboration.

Exporting Data from Geneious Prime

Launch Geneious Prime and select the document or dataset you want to export. To select multiple files, hold down Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) while selecting them.

Once your files are selected:

  1. Go to the File menu and choose Export, or
  2. Right-click the selected items and choose Export from the dropdown menu.

Geneious provides several export formats depending on the data type:

  • FASTA: Ideal for DNA and protein sequences.
  • GenBank or EMBL: Best for preserving annotations.
  • CSV or Excel: Suitable for tabular data.
  • Newick or Nexus: Designed for exporting phylogenetic trees.

After selecting the appropriate format, a dialog box will prompt you to select a save location for your exported file.

Uploading Data to LabArchives

With your file exported and saved locally, it's time to upload it to LabArchives.

  1. Log in to LabArchives and navigate to the notebook where you want to store your data.
  2. Go to the section or page where the data should be added.

There are two simple ways to upload your files:
